Laid Off from Your Job

Generally, if you have been laid off from your job, you are entitled to collect unemployment benefits since being laid off is considered the same as being terminated or fired.

The amount of unemployment benefits you may receive depends on how long you worked at your job and at what pay level.  You usually need to be out of work at least one week to collect benefits and you need to be actively searching for employment.  Unemployment benefits last 26 weeks in most cases.
