Tips on How to Win Custody
Winning custody of a child is not
always easy, and the fight to do so may be the hardest fight you
will ever wage. Remember that the court considers one issue
as THE issue when it comes to awarding custody: What is in
the best interest of the child. That is the best most
important thing in the entire child custody battle.
When battling for custody, it can
be an all out war. If you are in it to win it, then here are
a few guidelines about how to win custody:
1) Tell your family law
lawyer everything you can think of about the other parent.
Tell him everything you can think of about yourself, even the
things you would like to keep secret. You can have no
secrets from your attorney.
2) Do not fabricate
anything. Tell your attorney the truth. If you never
took your child to soccer games, do not tell him that you
did. You can bet that the other parent will have proof that
you did not.
3) Spend as much time as
possible with your child and document it with ticket stubs,
photographs, etc. Keep a record of the money you spend on
the child and the places you take the child. Write
everything down.
4) NEVER
pass up a chance to spend time with your child. If you
are wondering how to win custody, showing how much you love your
child by spending time with him or her goes a long way in proving
it.
5) Line
up character witnesses, people who know you are a good parent and
can why you are a good parent. These can include family,
teachers, coaches, colleagues and others.
6) Be nice to the other
parent. Show respect. Do not badmouth him or her
to your child. Do not try to interfere with the other
parent's relationship with your child.
7) Dress appropriately for
court. Prepare your testimony ahead of time. Remain
calm and cool during the proceedings.
8) Pay your attorney and
listen to him. He is the expert and knows how to win custody
of a child.
