Extortion

Extortion occurs when someone wants something from you and threatens to harm your person, family or property unless you give him what he wants.  If someone demands that you pay him $10,000 or he will burn down your house, you are being extorted.  It is different from robbery because the threat is of harm in the future, whereas robbery is the threat of immediate harm if you do not give someone what they want (usually your wallet).  Blackmail is a form of extortion, and some people consider having to pay taxes a form of extortion by the government.

If you are being extorted, contact the police.
