Drunk Driving Information

The public perception of drunk drunk driving has changed dramatically within the last couple of decades.  Not too long ago, it was considered socially acceptable to drink and drive, and most everyone did it at least once.   The group Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) can be credited with getting state legislatures to increase the penalties for drunk driving and thereby reducing alcohol-related traffic accidents, although people driving drunk is still a real problem in this country.

Driving while under the influence is often called DUI or DWI (driving while impaired) and isn't just restricted to driving drunk.  It also includes driving while under the influence of illegal drugs and prescription drugs.  Penalties for driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol now often include jail time for first-time offenders.  Alcohol blood content levels have also been lowered so that just a couple of drinks in an hour or two can mean that you are legally drunk and should not be driving an automobile.   Find out what to do if you are arrested for drunk driving.
